Assistive Technology Workshop: ‘Next Steps -Tech Steps’

An event has been organised to explore ways that Assistive Technology can support people with ID to maximise their independence and live lives of their choosing. The event is being organised in collaboration with the National Federation's 'Next Steps' community of practice to share information with staff, people who themselves would like to make use of assistive technologies in their lives, and family members.

When: Wednesday, 18th April 2018

Location: Tullamore Court Hotel

Time: 9.30-4.00pm

The event will be interactive with an opportunity for those attending to try out the assistive technologies that will be shared by the speakers.

Agenda

  • Key Speakers-
    • Siobhan Long, FreedomTech: Enable Ireland will talk about the AT Passport and the growing importance of technology 
    • Patrick Mulvihill, Independent Living Ireland; will showcase a wide range of existing technologies as well as looking into the future and 'The Internet of Things' for people with disabilities 
    • Dr. Ruchi Palan and Tim Komarov from Rehab Group will demonstrate the benefits of a selection of technologies that support people with disabilities in their lives, including eye-gaze technology and much more. 
    • Tracey McCann will share her personal story how AT has supported her to regain independence in her life
    • Sarah Gavra Boland, Lisa Mc Evoy, David Deane, Dr. John Owuor and Polly Walsh from  St. John of God Services and Advocacy groups - will discuss the multiple ways technology is empowering people to speak for themselves
    • David Fraughen - from the National Platform of Self Advocates will present examples of how AT faciliates his advocacy work and daily life
