Family and Friends Forum

The engagement of families is seen as being vital to the individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism who we support in the National Federation of Voluntary Bodies. The families can provide the fullest account of their family members’ life and changing needs. Families and siblings are key in many ways for their family member who needs support.

The National Federation of Voluntary Bodies are mindful and aware of the important role parents and families have.

Following consistent enquiries and interest in the area of a ‘Family and Friends Forum’ at National level. The National Federation of Voluntary Bodies took on the role of carrying out a Feasibility Study in respect of establishing a Regionaggnationl/National Family and Friends Forum.

The findings from the feasibility study agreed to the following:

  • Establish a Family & Friends Forum at each individual service provider level and assistance in their establishment would be made available from Ms. Niamh Mc Gauley, National Federation Secretariat.
  • A National Forum to also be established and populated by two nominees from each member organisation.
  • Frequency of meetings of the National Forum would be agreed by the members themselves who would also outline headline issues they would like addressed / considered at the meetings.

Who to contact:

Niamh Mc Gauley, National Federation Secretariat who oversaw the Feasibility Study is happy to offer any support you may need in the early stages of setting up such a forum.

In this regard, Please contact Niamh.mcgauley@fedvol.ie or alternatively by phoning 091 792316 for further assistance.
